Do Perth Tradies Actually Need a Website in 2026?

31 August 2026 · 6 min read

Plenty of Perth tradies run a full book without a website. Word of mouth works, the Facebook page gets enquiries, and the phone rings enough. So the honest answer to whether you need a website is: it depends on what you are trying to change.

Here is when it genuinely pays, and when it does not.

When a website will not fix anything

  • You are already at capacity. More leads are not an improvement if you are turning work away. Better pricing or better scheduling is the lever, not a website.
  • You want it to replace referrals. It will not. It supports them. Most people who find you by referral still look you up before they call — the site’s first job is to confirm you are real, not to generate strangers.
  • You will not maintain it. A website with a dead phone number and a 2019 copyright notice actively costs you jobs. If nobody is going to keep it current, either get it managed or do not bother.

When it starts earning

You want a specific type of work

Referrals bring you whatever comes. Search brings you what you ask for. If you want more bathroom renovations and fewer leaking taps, a page that is genuinely about bathroom renovations in your service area is how you tell Google — and customers — which jobs you actually want.

You are competing against bigger operators

The larger outfits in Perth are already ranking. When someone searches for your trade plus a suburb, they appear and you do not. That is not a reflection of your work; it is a reflection of who has a page about it.

People are checking you out before calling

This is the one most tradies underestimate. Someone gets your number from a mate, then searches your business name. If nothing credible comes up — no site, no reviews, a Facebook page last posted to eighteen months ago — a portion of those people quietly call someone else instead. You never hear about the job you lost.

You are sick of answering the same questions

Do you service Joondalup? Are you licensed? Do you do emergency call-outs? Can you send a quote? A website that answers these plainly removes a stack of phone time, and the same answers are what search engines use to match you to a query.

What a tradie website actually needs

Not much, honestly. The ones that work tend to have:

  • Your phone number visible without scrolling, on every page, tappable on a phone
  • The suburbs you cover, written out, not implied by a map graphic
  • A separate page for each main type of work you want more of
  • Real photos of your own jobs — not stock images of someone else’s tools
  • Licence and insurance details, because people look for them
  • A quote form that reaches you immediately, and that you actually reply to

Notice what is missing: animation, a blog you will never write, and a nine-page “process” section. Most tradie sites fail from neglect, not from lack of features.

Do the free thing first

Before spending anything on a website, set up and verify a Google Business Profile. For trade searches with local intent, the map pack sits above everything else, it costs nothing, and reviews on it will do more for your enquiry volume in the first month than most websites do in six. A website makes that profile stronger — but the order matters.

Where we fit

KFTMS builds websites for Perth tradies that are deliberately simple: quick to load, easy to phone from, structured so each service can rank, and fully hosted and maintained so you are never chasing a plugin update between jobs.

If the admin side is the real bottleneck rather than the lead flow, the more useful conversation might be about automating quoting and scheduling instead. We will tell you which one is the better spend.
